Conrad surface of discontinuity

Conrad surface of discontinuity

With the Conrad surface of discontinuity (Conrad ふれんぞくめん British: Conrad discontinuity), I point to the approximately horizontal aspect that existing earthquake wave speed increases discontinuously in the continent earth crust. The Conrad surface of discontinuity is the upper continent earth crust and a geophysical border of the lower part.

Summary

This surface of discontinuity is observed at depth of 15-20km in a various places throughout the continent area, but is not observed in the marine area. In addition, it is not clearer than a Mohorovicic discontinuity Lobi tweet surface of discontinuity, and the continent area which is not observed exists.

When (SiAl, sial), the lower part were comprised of a quality of pain iron rock (SiMa, sima) represented by basalt in 珪長質岩 represented by granite, until the mid-20th century, the upper part of the continent earth crust was estimated. Therefore the seismologist at the time thought about the Conrad surface of discontinuity chemically with the clear boundary surface of both different SiAl, SiMa layers.

However, from the about 1960s, the strong doubt for this thought has begun to happen in a geologist. The close geologic significance of the Conrad surface of discontinuity is unknown clearly in the present. The constitution rock of the continent earth crust is not Xuanwu rock-like character, and the clear border does not exist from quality of andesite (diorite) to the upper earth crust of the quality of granite which is a D site (granodiorite). Because the continent earth crust has a big horizontal inhomogeneity, in the Conrad side, a continuity is poor. One candidate of the Conrad surface of discontinuity is the partial fusion layer to be dotted with in the continent earth crust. The continent earth crust central part that melted partially in the past rises, and I am observed as migmatite by erosion when exposed on the present location. Such an example is seen extremely commonly in old continent earth crust area.
