メイズイ is a Japanese race horse. I scored an emphatic victory, and beat Satsuki-Prize Horse Race, 東京優駿 (Japan Derby) of 1963 by Kikkasho race while it was said that a classic Triple Crown was certain and missed a Triple Crown. They built the rival relations with gray Toyo Luke at the classical music front, and a series of play took each initial, and they were called "MG confrontation". 1963 年度啓衆社賞年度代表馬 and best 4 years old stallion, best sprinter.

Career

Birth

In 1960, I am born at Chiaki ranch of Katashina-mura, Gunma. Sakae Ishizuka Goro of association of Japanese lightweight horse horse chooses the mother till wind and is one of them of 19 breeding mares which I imported collectively from U.K. Ireland. Six wins, third 仔 May Thailand gave seven wins including the spring stake race, and second 仔 Ko May already got an evaluation with the excellent breeding in those days. As for father, this was known as an activity leading sire in possession horse gay time of Elizabeth II whom Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry imported from the U.K., too.

Even if the done mare included a till wind, 繋養 was only four in the Chiaki ranch, but it was the non-conception and a miscarriage other than the horse, and it was only a pack horse in those days that gave birth in this year [1]. The childhood name "明瑞" [2]. Ogata appreciated a pack horse with "the masterpiece of the till wind" when it came so that Tokichi Ogata of the animal trainer looked at the horse in July and was decided on management of Ogata on the spot [3]. After upbringing horse training was acquired afterward at Chiaki ranch, in 1962 when I reached 3 years old of the race age, I entered the Ogata stable of the Tokyo racetrack.

War record

I spent it while handling only horse training for the request of the Chiaki ranch which overlooked "the Great talents are slow in maturing" in 3 years [4] and became vacant and invited a first match by one-year-old horse round of the Nakayama holding on 4 years old and January 3, 1963 when it was. When it was suprasellar and faced a race in Takayoshi Yasuda who was the militarism jockey of the Ogata stable, I put a landslide victory that I touched 10 length differences to two at the escape limit from a start. I win at 1,400m by the exhibition game of the next month in record time of 0 for one minute 26 seconds. A next race won a clear-cut victory with 4 length differences, too and accomplished 3 successive victories.

Play with gray Toyo Luke

By Tokyo memory to continue, I face 僚馬, gray Toyo Luke of the Ogata stable which won the best 3 years old stallion for the first time in the previous year. Yasuda acted as a militarism jockey, and the horse performed the performance that owner of a racehorse, Akira Ono of gray Toyo Luke sat down before a horse bunch and strongly showed a will not to hand over Hota to [5]. I received this, and, in Hota, riding on horseback, Shigekatsu Moriyasu who was suprasellar, and was a younger disciple of Hota of メイズイ were arranged for gray Toyo Luke.

I avenged my loss in 前走 and gave the same big prize brothers victory with older brother May Thailand. I invited classic first match, Satsuki-Prize Horse Race to a next race, but, under the influence that a stable lad association caused a strike just before that, holding ground was moved to the Tokyo racetrack where had a long straight line from the authorized Nakayama racetrack. This is taken with disadvantage in メイズイ of the horse used for a rout [8] and hands over popularity to gray Toyo Luke most on the day. メイズイ leads a race, and gray Toyo Luke is form to see this, and the lace went ahead through three or four counts, but the speed of メイズイ does not become dull, and I touch the difference of 2 lengths to gray Toyo Luke, and the last straight line wins the championship, too. I got one classic crown eye. It was the race record which updated a record of Minoru Tokino of ten invincibility after an interval of 12 years for 6 for run thyme two minutes two seconds and was the good record called the 0.1 margin of a second from a Japanese record.

MG Derby

Under the influence of the above-mentioned strike, I reach 東京優駿 (Japan Derby) two weeks later. I was noised about with "the MG Derby" from prewar days, and, from a viewpoint that メイズイ and ability of gray Toyo Luke overwhelmed other horses, the bracket-style odds of both horses was said to be "the bank Derby" at lowness of 1.7 times [9]. メイズイ posted 1.8 times with the win odds and received the most popular support only after I suppressed gray Toyo Luke of 2.1 times.

It became the record of the first two minutes 20 seconds level to draw a conventional race record for the Derby at one sweep for 1.5 seconds. I a classic Triple Crown without becoming

I devoted the summertime to a rest after the Derby and aimed for the Kikkasho race that a Triple Crown of the second of them depended on since a Saint light in history in autumn. The win approval rating of the day records 83.2% which are a price of Kikkasho race history best. The Japanese central race meeting of the sponsor prepared an achievement of Triple Crown commemorative ornamental scented ball, too [note 1]. However, I could get twisted up, and a horse was caught on コウライオー of the riding on horseback best among the Asami country which took the nickname of "the Triple Crown killer" in those days [12] and, in the race, transferred 800m, a lap time of 1,000m at a high pace called 11.5 seconds in spite of [note 2], a long distance of 3,000m each for 11.7 seconds [13]. I added 30 length differences to a follower in the grand tier and continued escaping, but was over to six behind gray Toyo Luke who carried out a stall, the classical music's first conquest hurriedly at the third corner of the go-around second lap afterwards.

After an arrival, Takayoshi Yasuda who rode a horse to gray Toyo Luke waits for メイズイ to come from the rear, and it is said to Moriyasu that I shouted with "this fool!" [14]. However, it ended in the second place of リュウフォーレル which won 前走天皇賞 (in autumn) in record time. It followed that I lacked in vividness, but a spring classical music two crown was evaluated and was picked to a representative year horse of this year at the same time in autumn with リュウフォーレル in January, the following day.

I am defeated with five though I start from American Jockey Club cup with the goal of a spring Emperor's prize in 5 years old and 1964 when it was, the following day. After a rest, it is won 3 straight victories with the goal of an autumn Emperor's prize by a return war of October. However, the Emperor's prize of the public performance is soundly beaten with the eighth place of the Yamato Kyo die. 年末の有馬記念には、当年にクラシック三冠を達成したシンザンを押さえて1位で選出されたが、ヤマトキョウダイの3着に終わった。 この競走を最後に引退の予定だったが、負けたままでは格好が付かないとして年明け1月5日のオープン戦に出走し[19]、ここを勝利して引退。 同月24日、千明牧場出身の天皇賞優勝馬コレヒサと共に、東京競馬場で引退式が行われた。

引退後

引退後は、日本中央競馬会に種牡馬として買い上げられ、北海道浦河町の荻伏種馬場に繋養された。良血と優れたスピード能力が評価され、2年目まで50頭前後の交配相手を集め、当時輸入種牡馬に圧されていた内国産馬としては一定の人気を集めた[20]。しかしその中からはオープン特別の中京4歳ステークスを制したスノードーターの他に数頭の地方競馬の重賞勝ち馬を出した程度[21]と産駒の成績が振るわず交配頭数は激減。三石種馬場に移されてアラブ馬専用の種牡馬として供用された後、1977年からは青森県の浜中牧場に移動した。なおアラブの種牡馬としてはタマツバキ記念の勝ち馬ブイセブンを送り出している。

その後種牡馬としての活動はなく、翌1978年8月5日、持病であった神経痛の悪化により、馬房内で死亡した[22]。18歳（現表記19歳）。父として中央競馬の重賞を勝ったサラブレッド競走馬は出せなかったが、ブルードメアサイアー（母の父）として重賞3勝を挙げたハシコトブキ（父シンザン、母コウセキ）を出している。その死後、曾姪孫（全姉の曾孫）に当たる千明牧場生産馬・ミスターシービーが1983年にクラシック三冠を達成。千明牧場はメイズイから20年越しでの雪辱を果たしている。

評価

メイズイはその馬体に対する評価が高い。競馬評論家の大川慶次郎は、「柔らかくてしなやかな、それはもう本当に惚れ惚れするほどいい馬でした」と回想し、一歳下の三冠馬シンザンと比較して「"垢抜けたサラブレッド"ということで言えば、メイズイはシンザンの比ではなかったと思います。それぐらい、メイズイという馬は素晴らしかったのです」と評している[23]。また、詩人の志摩直人は菊花賞の様子を描写した「華麗なる壊滅」という一篇の中で、「エキゾチックな肢体の美しい馬」としており[24]、競馬記者の橋本邦治は「美しい姿態。胸のすくようなフットワークで逃げるメイズイ。誰が見ても"一目惚れ"する馬と言えた」と述べている[25]。

2年連続で有馬記念のファン投票1位を獲得しているように人気も高く、2000年には日本中央競馬会が実施したファン投票による名馬選定企画「20世紀の名馬大投票」において第99位に選出された。実施時点に近い年代の馬が数多くランクインした中、同年代以前に競走生活を送り、JRA顕彰馬以外で100位以内に入ったのはメイズイのみであった。また、競馬会の機関誌『優駿』において識者5名が選定を担当した「20世紀のベストホース100」にも名を連ねている。

競走成績から見た場合、2600m以上の距離での実績は2着2回3着1回着外3回で未勝利であるのに対して、2400m以下では16戦15勝、敗戦は東京記念の2着だけという抜群の安定感を誇る。血統にも造詣が深かった志摩直人は、有馬記念と天皇賞で敗れたリュウフォーレル、ヒカルポーラ、ヤマトキョウダイの3頭に着目し、「負けたその相手馬はいずれもヒンドスタン産駒であるところに、メイズイの血の秘密があばかれたように思われる。父のゲイタイムは、ダービー二着の馬であるが、このダービーの後にエリザベス女王の服色でレースに出たが、十七戦六勝、勝ったのは何れも二千米以下のレースであった[26]」と、メイズイが短・中距離向きの馬だったことを示唆している。また、ライターの今井昭雄は、「結果論だが、同馬（メイズイ）は二千四百メートル以上の距離には一度も勝てなかった。（中略）メイズイは、典型的な中距離ランナーだったのだ」と評している[27]。

近親には全姉メイワの孫に重賞3勝のシービークインがおり、その産駒が前述のミスターシービーである。ほか4代母ベスオブハードウィックの半兄にケンタッキーダービーなどを制したオマールカイヤームがいる。また、6代母リズマから連なる同牝系の出身馬にイギリスチャンピオンステークスなどを制したハニーウェイがおり、その全妹フェアハネーはメイズイの母チルウインドとともに日本に輸入され、東京優駿を制したフエアーウインを産出している（フエアーウインの父は、メイズイと同じゲイタイム）。
