I do not have power, and the bathysphere (I do not do it I breathe it and am sudden English: Bathysphere) or drumsticks fair is a diving device for the spherical deep sea which hangs it with a cable underwater, and is taken down.

Summary

The first bathysphere was devised in 1928 by Otis Burton (Otis Barton). The real thing was designed by John H J Butler of coxswain & Stevens Corporation (Cox & Stevens, Inc.). Coxswain & Stevens Corporation is the company where Otis Burton ordered production of "diving tank" from in 1929. The casting of the steel ball husk was carried out in Watson steal man hydraulic machine company in the New Jersey roselle (Roselle). After it was judged that the practical use top had too heavy first thing, I was changed in an emptiness globe of 4.75 feet in diameter (1.45m) made of the cast steel of 1 inch (2.54cm) of thickness.

A window of melting quartz [1] (the available strongest transparent material) of the 3 inches thickness was fitted in a ball husk. The doorway was a form fixed with a bolt before diving in a hatch of the weight of 400 pounds. Oxygen was supplied from the high-pressure cylinder brought in inside of the ball. I turned an electric blower on the container which I put soda lime (I take in carbon dioxide) and calcium chloride (it absorbs moisture) in at the same time, and cleaning circulated internal air.

In use, the bathysphere is hung with 1 inch of cable, and a hose of the hard rubber takes supply of the electricity and the protection of the telephone wire (the only communication means of a passenger and the water). The displacement of the whole device (including a cable and other lines) is approximately 10,000 pounds (4,000 kg).

Because the economic organization-like help system was necessary for use of the bathysphere, Burton demanded cooperation from William Beebe (English version) (William Beebe) of the famous explorer, natural historian in those days. On June 6, 1930, they challenged the first manned diving by the bathysphere together and reached the depth of 803 feet (245m).

In 1932, Burton and Beebe made a world record of the diving depth of 3,028 feet (923m), and this was not broken for 15 years either.

If depth becomes big, it becomes hard to treat the cable hanging bathysphere. Therefore the hiding to aim at 深 くを more is carried out by a vehicle (bathyscaphes) to propel with a screw by oneself.

The bathysphere of Burton and Beebe is displayed now in the New York Aquarium (New York Aquarium) of New York Coney Island.

The word drumsticks fair (bathysphere) is the word that composed word "βάθος" (Latin transliteration: bathos) = "深" and "σφαίρα" (sphaira) = "ball" of the Greek.

Translation with notes

  1. The ^ original is "fused quarts". I followed the での equivalent that "went the deep sea of 11,000 meters".
