It is a river flowing through Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian central part, and the ザイ river (Russianай, Roman letters notation: Zay, Tartar :Зәй, Zäy) is the left branch of the head river (Volga river water system). As for the length, 270km, the basin area are 5,020 square km.

I utter it near ミハイロフカ of the レニノゴルスキー district in southeastern Republic of Tatarstan. The people are hills of the limestone called the ブグリマ = ベレベーイ hill, and a lot of oil fields exist. I am called ステプノイ ザイ river (RussianтепнойЗай, TartarалаЗәе, Dala Zäye, "the ザイ river of the step") at the source and I join reply noy ザイ river ("the ザイ river of the forest" extension 55km) on the way and come to be merely called ザイ river. After junction, I drift to approximately 70km north and join the head river at southwestern 7km of ニジネカムスク. There are the Moshe Kara, ザイ = empty Thai river, Ulu Sarah River, アクタシュカ river, シュミシュカ river in the big branch.

Two dam lakes called ザインスク lake and the カラバシュ lake are in the basin. Other than ザインスク in the immediate down stream of the ザインスク dam, towns such as アリメチエフスク, カラバシュ are at the coast.
