Summary
QuickTime/QuickTime X takes the core of the movement of iTunes and the multimedia system application that are the software of the apple such as Final Cut Pro. QuickTime Kit (QTKit) is prepared as API and can access conventional QuickTime and conventional QuickTime X both sides in same API. Much application uses native API of old QuickTime at the time of the Mac OS X v10.6 release, but a shift to QuickTime X is recommended by using QTKit in future. QTKit is rearranged in OS X Mavericks (OS X v10.9) to AVFoundation (AV Kit) which is a multimedia technique of the succession and will disappear [1].
MPEG-4 and H.264 are adopted newly in conventional QuickTime and supported 3GPP, but the system which lets GPU handle reproduction of H.264 newly, and can largely reduce the load of the CPU is maintained (I give some responses by plug in in conventional QuickTime). It is easy to make use of performance of the multi-core CPU effectively by Grand Central Dispatch. On the other hand, I came in response to very various kinds of file format and codec by a flexible plug in system in conventional QuickTime, but, as for the plug in, there is largely little coping codec in QuickTime X without being supported.
Two of QuickTime Player Pro which can perform editing, conversion, the preservation of QuickTime Player only for reproduction and media data in former QuickTime parted, but it is only in QuickTime Player in QuickTime X, and they can perform trimming or conversion even if it is not Pro specification.
In addition, as a technique of the new live streaming, HTTP live streaming was introduced.
In addition, the offer of conventional QuickTime becomes the end to Windows without being able to use it by before Mac OS X v10.5 and Windows for specifications for 64 bits [2]. But even a 32-bit CPU can use QuickTime X if it is Snow Leopard deployment Mac.
Difference with QuickTime 7
QuickTime 7 and QuickTime X are independent software. At the time of the Snow Leopard installation, only QuickTime X is installed by default. It is necessary to install it separately (or at the time of OS installation) to use QuickTime 7. The coexistence of QuickTime 7 and X is possible in this sense. QuickTime 7 is called only when I use the function that is not supported in QuickTime X after QuickTime 7 installation.
I cannot use the plug in for QuickTime before seven basically. But QuickTime X can use the old codec that is not made for 64 bits through QTKit. [3]
QuickTime Player
QuickTime Player of QuickTime X is different from conventional QuickTime Player in a design and a function.
- Design
- It became the simple design based on black. When I do not do cursor operation for a while or keep away a cursor from a window, title bar and the controller of the window are hidden, and only an animation playing rises.
- Editing feature
- I was able to begin to talk about a part of the animation using the function called "a trim" by default.
- I began to write an animation for iPhone use and Apple TV and was provided with an upload function to YouTube.
- Recording, recording function
- In QuickTime Player, the recording from Web cameras such as recording or iSight from a microphone was enabled.
- I came to be able to capture a screen of Mac by an animation. I am begun to write in MOV form.
