Achievements
The first person of fundamental researches of the aging that assumed a D-amino acid an index.
The result that continued the original study based on the unique idea is accepted and clears the frontier in protein chemistry and gets a high evaluation globally.
In late years it was revealed that the D-amino acid of the isolation took various physiological roles, and the D-amino acid meeting for the study was established, too. In this field, Japan is in a leading position globally.
I that you should mention specially
- I did not intend to become a researcher from a beginning. Because I liked chemistry in the high school, I thought to advance to the physical science vaguely.
- I know that a woman researcher plays an active part from a newspaper article at a fermentation-related research institute and, before university entrance into a school of higher grade, am just interested in food chemistry. Therefore I entered the agricultural chemistry department of the department of agriculture.
- I studied the glyco-protein of the skin in solution properties of matter, a doctoral course of the biopolymer with a master's course.
- When I found work in a laboratory of Tsukuba University, the amino acid was comprised only of a left hand type (L-form) in the creatures in the one which there should be two kinds equally of a left hand type (L-form) and the right hand type (D form) and knew that it was dripped even in a process of the chemical evolution for the first time.
- Then the aging was for reverse of the evolution and thought that the amino acid of the right hand type which was not L-form (D form) might be found if I checked an aging organization.
- In the protein only for left hand types (L-form), it was thought that it was impossible that the amino acid of the right hand type (D form) was mixed in those days.
- I announced the results of research that an amino acid gradually varies from L-form to D form in the calm temperature environment that is in the living body, but did not attract attention in contents far apart from the common sense at the time.
- Result was finally recognized by having pinpointed the part of D-aspartic acid (D-Asp) in crystalline lens constitution protein of the Homo sapiens.
- I discovered it about D-aspartic acid (D-Asp) being accumulated at the aging organization of the human body, the role of ultraviolet rays in the formation.
- A researcher had few studies of the D-amino acid residue in protein in the 80s when Fujii has begun to wrestle, but it is now in the global research field.
Specialized field
- The protein damage caused by the radiation
- Biochemical study of the metallothionine using an activation analysis
- It is racemized ultraviolet rays and the skin protein
