Lower Valley of the Awash (アワッシュ がわかりゅういき) is a lower basin of the アワッシュ river. In addition, a name when the whole area of the neighborhood of ハダール village in the northeastern part of Ethiopia was registered with a world heritage of the UNESCO. The reason as the registered master depends on fossil human bone Lucy of Australopithecus アファレンシス (アファール pithecanthropus) having been discovered in this ground.
It was an once-in-a-lifetime valuable witness in Lucy being a fossil human bone discovered on November 30, 1974 by the United States and a French joint investigating group, and considering evolution of the human from the miraculous discovery situation that the bone of approximately 40% of whole bodies was found in and the projecting oldness called the human bone 3,500,000 years ago (the discovery of the Australopithecus ramidus who largely updates this oldness is 20 years later).
In the investigation of this time, piece 316 of the fossil human bone for 40 in total were found, but the individual which large amount of quantity excavated did not exist as Lucy elsewhere. Anyway, the human bone found at this time will be named Australopithecus アファレンシス.
In the middle basin which sailed up the river, the fossil human bone which is older than Lucy is discovered now.

Considered that this world heritage met the following standards in the world heritage registration standard, and registration was accomplished (the following standards are translation, quotation from a registration standard of the world heritage center publication).
