Summary
From the Echizen country area which is an ancient ordinance country, I am equivalent to the area except Tsuruga-shi (former Tsuruga county).
The border with 嶺南 is a ridgeline of the Yamanaka Pass, tree ノ bud mountain pass, Tochinoki Pass. I am used by weather forecasts for the local name routinely.
The name comes from that I have begun to call the north side with "木嶺以北" (もくれいいほく) from the tree ノ bud Pass which is a difficult place of Hokuriku Expressway (Hokkoku Highway) (木嶺) in about 1881 when current Fukui was established.
