Mountain car fellow Spirostoma japonicum is one kind of the land products shellfish of the mountain mud snail department. Having an extremely flat husk, a cover swells conically highly.

Characteristic

As for the husk, most of 螺塔 becomes flat with round mat form [¹]. Each layer is good, and 螺層 goes up because of 4.5 levels, and the joint becomes deep. The body layer is big and is round. The shell epidermis is smooth, and yellowish-brown is shiny. The fauces inclines a little forward in a circle and the border is smooth and a share thickens and turns over a little. The navel hole is very large and can see inward all the 螺層. It is male and is amount of husk 5.8-6.8mm, husk diameter 11.8-15.7mm whereas the size of the husk includes two models of the sex and a female husk is bigger and is amount of husk 6.4-7.1mm, husk diameter 11.8-15.7mm [²].

The cover of the husk is round, and, with quality of leather, in the outside, the center increases conically and there is a spiral design and is seen on the surface like the pupa of the fly at all [³].

Distribution and biotope

I am distributed over Shikoku, Kyushu from central part and to the south of Honshu, the west [²]. I am known from the southern part of Korean Peninsula in the foreign territory [³].

There is many it under the shrub forest of under a forest particularly the dune [³]. I inhabit Machilus thunbergii, a thicket cinnamon tree, the fallen leaves under the holm oak (representative constitution class of the shore forest all in southern Japan) for a tree class [²].

including the resemblance class

I resemble this seed, but there are amount of husk 6mm, husk diameter 10.5mm and a thing small clearly and says this to Yakushima, Tanegashima, the mouth ノ island with ヒメヤマクルマガイ S. j. nakadai. I was considered to be the subspecies of this seed, but ever sold it in another kind [⁴]. Alternatively, there is not the similar kind in Japan.
