Heinkel P.1078 is an interceptor of the single seat developed for Luftwaffe by Heinkel Corporation based on an urgent fighter plan (English version) that Third Empire ordered in 1944.

Process

As part of a fighter plan (English version), one plan was urgently started in early 1945 by the air force general headquarters (OKL). This was a thing for the new generation fighter / interceptor which substituted in He 162 "Volk Jaeger". As for this new machine, I was intended for a proposition to handle a menace of the substratospheric altitude such as the B-29 to show superior performance.

Heinkel Corporation created three kinds of different designs by this plan, and these were submitted in February, 1945. Messerschmitt P.1110^[1], Foche-Wulf Ta 183, ブローム ウント Foss P.212 and Junkers EF 128 that it was the winner by comparison examination formally existed for the design of the substratospheric altitude fighter of the plane manufacturer suggested to elsewhere [²]. After having received the criticism that was targeted for a design, and was severe, Heinkel Corporation abandoned this plan at the end of February, 1945.

There was completely three kinds of different derivation type by the plan of Heinkel P.1078. All these are swept-back wing with two steps of dihedral angles with a fighter of the single seat. The main wing had a sweepback of 40 degrees, and wooden parts were included in structure. Having the wing tip where all planned bodies added the angle to the lower part to, all planes drove it by Heinkel HeS 011 turbojet again.

P.1,078A

It is an interceptor flying by a jet. Among three kinds of designs submitted to, this machine is a body having the tail assembly by the most traditional appearance alone again. Like two kinds of derivation type to continue, 兵装 was the MK 108 cannon 2 gate [³].

P.1078 B

It is an interceptor to drive by a jet with the tailless airplane which is asymmetry of the short body. The air inhalation mouth of the engine is established to intermediate part of two body. The cockpit was placed to the left trunk, and, on the other hand, the right trunk had a neck leg built-in [⁴].

P.1078 C

It is an interceptor plan of no tail assembly. P.Although I resemble 1078 B, I have the single short trunk. I had the wing tip where both He P.1078 B and P.1078 C added an angle to downward, and it stood out than an angle of P.1078 A [⁵].
