Geography
History
芎 In the forest volost, a former name was named "nine 芎 forest" before it was developed a designation because nine 芎 trees grew thick and formed a forest. It is a pioneer of the development by the Chinese that 姜勝智 of the Cantonese, 劉承豪 and others settled in this ground in 1775. When it was around 1785, other Cantonese, a person from Fujian settled in sequence, and the farmland of the considerable scale has been cultivated in the way light early years.
I belonged to 新竹県竹塹堡東廂 to a new stand as an administrative section, but was renamed to State of 台北県新竹支庁竹北一堡, Xinzhu bamboo east county 芎 林庄 when the rule to depend on Japan was started. I was considered to be Xinzhu prefecture bamboo Higashi-ku 芎 forest volost at the start in postwar period, but I am renamed to Xinzhu prefecture 芎 forest town by local government system reform of 1950 and reach it at the present.
