I began observing that it was a first year student at the Tokyo prefectural sixth junior high school (now ·). After graduating from the prefecture six junior high school (now ·) go on. In collaboration with other amateur astronomers in Yokohama Technical College during the student days, in October he invited a Yokohama engineering specialist who was studying at the company and opened astronomical diffusion lecture meeting. After joining Yokohama Civil Engineering graduate, he joined a leading chemical industry manufacturer and supported the "number one country of science and technology extension · Japan".
Although I lived in the school days, I moved to Kanagawa prefecture and built an observation hut at my house, I set a reflecting telescope with a 40 cm aperture, and I am observing the dark variable stars around the center. We also actively participated in the meeting of variable star observers outside Japan and PR on variable star observations by variable stars observers in Japan.
In the era when Sakuma was active, the distortion of science and technology became noticeable in the period of high economic growth in Japan. For example, Kawasaki asthma in his local and Kawasaki city, the problem was closing up, and he was also interested in the problem of occupation. The asteroid No. 6809 was named in commemoration of his contribution to the whole, centered on his variable stars astronomy.
From the standpoint of astronomers he devoted himself to enlightening the problem. Because he is 5 cm in diameter, he devised and disseminated a method to measure the limit class of the "falling eagle" part in the summer of Subaru in winter, he also spread. Apart from the conventional method of measuring air pollution from the visibility observation etc. of Mt. Fuji, this was considered a method of measuring the transparency of the sky at that time. While linking air pollution and light hazard, the Environment Agency (now ·) became the beginning of questioning light pollution as an environmental problem, and it has had a big influence on the whole effort of the light pollution problem after that. At that time the Environment Agency conducted a starry sky contest of how the starry sky would look like in each place and decided the ranking of places where the stars can be seen well, but the starry sky contest was realized by the idea of Sakuma as a trigger.
Interested in the original observation limit class, he quickly took notice of the problem and participated in early petitioning activities. "When I passed the patient's petty party at that time, I left a wordbook saying," It is sad that a man standing opposite the light harm is essentially the upper house, "he said. It is sarcastic that the Minamata Disease problem can not be said that the light harm which should be the "system side" has not necessarily been solved while the patient's opinion is accepted as a whole while reconciliation progresses.
In addition, Sakuma also participated in the community astronomy club activities based on Murayama's early work as well as exchange with the researcher at the former science and engineering department at the authority of the chairman · and early · Astronomy dissemination activity around downtown Influence. Later Murayama became the director of Sakuma, but Sakuma joined the Astronomy Museum Goto Island Planetarium Argument Committee and has been subsidizing its activities to the end.
In Japan, we are actively establishing local initiative initiatives and non-profit organizations in "regional problems due to unnecessary public works", which has become a majority opinion.
