Larger section of a village

Larger section of a village

The capital letter (bruise) is a kind of the characters (bruise) that is the jurisdiction in cities, towns and villages. A larger section of a village where [2] was founded by separation, an inning after municipal organization, the municipality organization enforcement that left the conventional name of a village, name of a street at the time of the enforcement of municipal organization promulgated in (1889) in 1889 and the municipality organization [1] exists a lot basically. I distinguished it from this larger section of a village, and all subsection of them came to say the character that was the division credit that lied below in village (affairs of a feudal clan village) from Edo period. Generally the character can say that I am often identified with "the town" under city and district municipalities of "Kioicho". The reason distinguished from a name of a street depends on the following historic process.

Table of contents

Establishment of the larger section of a village

It is the small division unit that was under the early modern village of Japan, and, as for the origin of the character, it is said that I refer a block of land such as the fields, the forest to character, famous place, fall names according to "the district explanatory notes record", but is not clarified in the origin [2]. This "character" is the current subsection. The name of the character was seen in manor documents after the Heian era, and institutional significance was kept after the land survey conducted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi by this character [2]. The character was listed in a character note every a brief note and was listed in the land tax ledger of the village [2]. This village is succeeded in the Edo era, and, in 村限図 which is made from 字限図 made in the case of land tax reforms of (1873) in 1873, and was made, these affairs of a feudal clan village becomes the unit [1].

The larger section of a village left the name of these affairs of a feudal clan village or town at the time of merger of cities, towns and villages performed on the occasion of municipal organization, the municipality organization (great merger of so-called Meiji) enforcement enforced in (1889) in 1889. For example, when A village merges with other villages and became the B village newly, I assume new address notation "B village larger section of a village A" and am similar even if this is a merger of the towns [3]. But there is the exception because there was a merger, the de-centralized village of the affairs of a feudal clan village which there was till then between before the Meiji early years leading to the municipality organization enforcement [1].

When Tokyo city started with (1889), Tokyo 15 wards in around Tokyo in 1889, the change of some areas was performed in the border area of a ward and rural districts, but 町丁 which shifted from the ward to the rural districts at this time was done with one larger section of a village in 町丁単独. In addition, most of municipalities near city Tokyo City that becoming it went ahead through rapidly abolish an old capital letter after the Great Kanto Earthquake early in the Showa era, and a new larger section of a village (the name that the appearance top is 町丁的) is set. In these larger sections of a village, in the case of (1932), city limits expansion of Tokyo City, a name just became 町丁 of Tokyo City in 1932.

The shared territorial bonding combination of the community in the area structure of Japan often does a village community having a tradition having a long it that the end of the Middle Ages reaches in modern times after the Edo era with a unit, and, in the larger section of a village succeeding this, it is the formation unit of the area branch office of residents' association (district meeting, neighborhood association) and the firefighting team even today, and the meaning as the end unit of the native district consciousness is not lost today either.

Notation of the larger section of a village

There are many things that there is not the notation called "a larger section of a village" in the public location and address written down to a register or the Basic Resident Register of the land, but in this some; may be.

When one does not have a capital letter as administrative division under cities, towns and villages. When I form one municipalities alone after a great merger of the Meiji [4], (the notation of "the town" was used as a jurisdiction under the cities) does not have a larger section of a village basically when the town from the early modern times including the urban area cooperates and introduces municipal organization.

When I lose "larger section of a village" notation by a local government changes the name of the larger section of a village one more or abolishing it. In this case the notation of the larger section of a village will disappear from a register and the Basic Resident Register top of the land. It is necessary to establish it after the decision of the assembly based on Local Government Act (Article 260 Clause 1), and the example that enforcement of house indication and the land readjustment, the municipal organization enforcement, merger of cities, towns and villages become the opportunity is seen.

In this case there is [5] about the notation when "I may merely lose the notation of "the larger section of a village" with "○○ character □□" in larger section of a village ○○ character □□" or rearrange "larger section of a village ○○" as ,"○○ town character □□" in "○○ town" when I do it with the name that is new using a larger section of a village including "○○□□ town and subsection name again".

About handling of the larger section of a village,

  • Case ("I change the name from larger section of a village ○○" to the larger section of a village "○○") as a larger section of a village
  • Case ("I abolish a larger section of a village called larger section of a village ○○" and establish the town named "○○") to abolish a larger section of a village, and to establish the town (town as the jurisdiction under cities, towns and villages)
  • When either is vague ("I am placed as a town called ,"○○" or a character and install [6] by the abolition of the larger section of a village called larger section of a village ○○" or a change)

But, there is it. In addition, a town and the character ([7] including the larger section of a village) as the division unit under cities, towns and villages do not have the distinction in the administration business now, and nothing is a changing thing as the actual situation even if the notation of the larger section of a village was abolished. In the case of the municipal organization enforcement and an admission merger "((that) example that larger section of a village )○○" is changed to "○○ town and to become "○○" by house indication afterwards and come back to (original name is frequent, e.g.,: Konodai).

With the city that there are many examples which abolish a character at the time of the admission of neighboring cities, towns and villages in the big city introducing municipal organization for a long time, and installed as a town, but retains a larger section of a village without installing a town even now in the ordinance-designated city (Saitama-shi, Kawasaki-shi, Nagoya-shi, Hiroshima-shi, Kitakyushu-shi, Fukuoka-shi, Kumamoto-shi).

In addition, as a result of merger of cities, towns and villages, a crown names a local government name "X X town" before the merger it in previous capital letter name "△△"; it when "do it like X X town △△" with one larger section of a village, there is (e.g.,: Tougochoonobuchi, Satsuma-gunTougochoonobuchi, Satsumasendai-shi), but there is (e.g.,: Azuchicho, Gamo-gun larger section of a village KonakaKonaka, Azuchi-cho, Omihachiman-shi) when it is after a merger as an exception in the area autonomous districts the area of the local government before the merger because "the X X town" is an area autonomous district name among address notation called ,"○○ City X X town △△" when the larger section of a village name comes to remain "△△".

The total output of a village was 33 石余 in "a former high former territory". The area of Eishi-mura of Edo period became larger section of a village "Kojima" of the Kamikoshiki village with municipality organization having been enforced in (1889) in 1889 [7].
