The nation where the Rio Grande republic (Rio Grande きょうわこく, República del Río Grande, Republic of the Rio Grande) existed between North American Texas republic and Mexico from January 17, 1840 to November 6 while it was short.

Table of contents

Background

After an independence war for 10 years in Mexico, Mexico gained independence from the Spanish kingdom in 1821. Monarchism is over in a short life, and Mexico adopts a constitution (English version) in 1824 in 1824 and establishes "the United Mexican States" of the federal republican form of government like the United States of America.

In 1833, the Santa Ana general was picked as the President for the first time. At the time of the election, he supported federal republican form of government, but I let you stop a constitution afterwards and dissolved an assembly and made the center of the power one's one by making the centralized government. Mexico became the dictatorship immediately, and the individual states of Mexico developed repulsion to the central government to maintain the right. Texas republic has already declared independence in 1836 [1].

Declaration of Independence

On January 17, 1840, Constitutional Convention was held with オルベニャ lunch close to Laredo. Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, each state of Tamaulipas withdrew from Mexico, and it was decided to put a capital in Laredo, and to form Federal Republic of oneself here. Hess's デ Cardenas took office as the President.

The Rio Grande republic insisted on a territory based on Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, a former state border of Tamaulipas. Texas republic insisted on the south border of the territory with the Rio Grande, but the people who lived in the north of the Rio Grande admitted a Mexican in those days. In Constitutional Convention close to Laredo, the north border of Tamaulipas established the north border of Coahuila with upper Medina River (English version) in ヌエセス river (English version). We already had the dispute of proprietary rights in this area to the south Rio Grande between Texas republic and Mexico. As of January, 1840, the Rio Grande republic insisted on a one-third of this area.

After Constitutional Convention, the government moved to Guerrero (English version) of Tamaulipas temporarily for reasons of the safe top. After Battle of Morelos (English: Battle of Morelos, Spanish: Battala de Morelos) of March, 1840, the government took refuge in Victoria of the Texas republic, and the Rio Grande republic existed there until I collapsed in the same year.

Independence war

A part of the Diet building of the Rio Grande republic is used as a museum in Texas Laredo, and the republican photograph and history that were over with a short life are displayed now.

Each armed force of Antonio kana reply ロシリョ (English version) of the Commander Rio Grande republic and Malian Ano Arista of the Mexican commander fought in Coahuila Morelos (English version) on March 24, 1840 and 25th. The Mexican center government troop defeated the Rio Grande forces. By this defeat, a trial and the execution of 23 republican cavalry soldiers including the Colonel Antonio Zapata of the Commander cavalry division were carried out. A kanaless commander and the soldier of the Rio Grande forces who survived the Battle of Morelos fled into San Antonio of the Texas republic and avoided a difficulty.

The reason why Texas demanded independence from Mexico from was basically similar to the reason why Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, a state of Tamaulipas demanded independence from. The kanaless commander utilized that I was on the land of the people with similar thought by taking a trip to the Texas average to spread the new republican recognition that he fought well. He recruited the volunteers who fought to a beefhead for Rio Grande republic.

There was the kanaless commander in Texas Kyowa nation's capital Austin in season in April, 1840 and met Mirabeau B Lamar of the President there. President Lamar supported a new republican action personally, but it is said that I felt it when it disturbs the effort to find approval of independent Texas republic oneself from Mexico to recognize officially. The kanaless commander left Austin and went to Houston on May 2 and I spread recognition sequentially and looked for a volunteer.

I was not able to get the official recognition from the Texas republic, but the trip of the kanaless commander got quite a few success. On June 1, he arrived at サンパトリシオ (English version) where the military of the Rio Grande republic was reorganized. I gave it to 300 citizens of the Rio Grande republic, and the volunteer of 140 beefheads and 80 Indians was included in the military. Colonel Samuel W Jordan (Samuel W. Jordan) led the volunteer of the beefhead.

In the end of June, the kanaless commander dispatched Colonel Jordan and approximately 90 beefhead volunteers to the south disputed region. They occupied capital, シウダービクトリア of Tamaulipas without any rivalry across the Rio Grande. Several people of the person who guided Colonel Jordan were still faithful to the Mexican centralization government and were going to let beefheads leave for San Luis Potosi that the Mexican forces ambushed. The Colonel Jordan doubted this and let you detour around his military unit when to Coahuila サルティーヨ and was attacked in the Raphael basketball of the Mexican military commander (English version) there on October 25. In spite of the fact that escaped, the Colonel Jordan could protect oneself, and some his military units came back to Texas.

The republic that became extinct

The delegation and the Arista general of the commander kanaless in November held a meeting to discuss war. Instead of abandoning the important meaning of the Rio Grande republic to a kanaless general, during this meeting, the Mexican government percussed that I gave you the position of the brigadier general of the Mexican forces. On November 6, the kanaless commander accepted this percussion. By this event, the Rio Grande republic became extinct.

National flag of the Rio Grande republic

As for the flag of the Rio Grande republic, three white stars are treated along a red colour of the ground of the whist equally. Three stars express three states which they withdrew from. As for the fried food, bottom is black with white the upper part. But this was designed intentionally like Lone Star of the Texas republic which fought for the same ideal.

Republican today

In the domain of the Rio Grande republic, the United States of America (Texas), the south side become the territory of the United Mexican States (Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, each state of Tamaulipas) now the north side after the Rio Grande.

Texas Zapata county (English version) and the town of Sabata (English version) come from the name of the Colonel Antonio Zapata of the Commander cavalry division of the Rio Grande republic (Jose Antonio de Zapata). The Rio Grande republic Diet building Museum (English version) is located in Texas Laredo. In addition to six flags, the local paper Laredo morning coat Times (English version) adds the flag of the seventh Rio Grande republic to it.

Footnote

  1. In the next year of the ^ Rio Grande republic independence, the independence of the Yucatan republic (English version) was declared in Yucatan in southeastern Mexico in 1841 and retained it until 1847.
