David Gill

Sir David Gill (Sir David Gill, from June 12, 1843 to January 24, 1914) is a Scotland-born astronomer. I was appointed from 1879 through 1906 by "Her Majesty's Astronomer" and observed the star of the nandin at a South African cape astronomical observatory. It is the pioneer who used a photograph technology for astronomy observation.

I learned beginning horography and turned in astronomy because I cooperated in the plan of the private astronomical observatory of James Lindsey. I observed Mars in Ascension Island in 1877 and precision was good and found the earth and distance of the sun. I was appointed at an astronomical observatory of South African Cape of Good Hope from 1879 by "Her Majesty's Astronomer" and observed the nandin for the next 26 years. The result was summarized in "cape 写真掃天星表" of 1882 in cooperation with Jacobus カプタイン. I am elected in 1883 by Royal Society fellow.
