Trial manufacture type XM551

Development was started by AR/AAV (Armored Reconnaissance/Airborne Assault Vehicle: armor reconnaissance / air strategy charge vehicle) plan that M551 integrated the M56 スコーピオン air strategy tank destroyer for paratroops with the M41 whippet tank which had begun to be used in the 1950s and substituted. There was no self-propelled gun reason of the open top, and the defence of M56 in particular had to replace this early equally.

ASCOD foot soldier battle car (アスコッド ほへいせんとうしゃ, Austrian Spanish Cooperation Development infantry fighting vehicle) is one group of 履帯式装甲戦闘車両 which Austria and Spain developed jointly. In ASCOD, Austria and the light armor battle vehicle such as the old M113 armored personnel carrier in both Spanish army were designed to substitute.
