The E993 series train(E993 Kei Tensei) (JR East) was developing technology aiming at the next generation. (14 years) In January a single 5-car train was produced, " AC Train"(AC Train) was given.

AC is Advanced Commuter (An evolved commuter train). Vehicle design development was in charge. Since this series is a test vehicle, it had multiple variations in interior / exterior / body structure (construction method, material) etc. within the same formation.

Originally it was a study to introduce technologies for vehicles to be introduced to, but (Heisei era 2001) degree - (2004) and introduced into consideration of vehicles to be introduced or changed into development. Naturally, as it is a test vehicle, this test vehicle did not become a business vehicle itself as it was.

It belongs to the Kawagoe Train District (now ·) of Saityo from New Mfg., And the test run was carried out at the Saikyo Line. In September 2002, public open exams were also conducted.

Organization and features

Formation is Kuha E993 + Saha E993 + Moha E993 + Moha E992 + Kuha E992 , And it contained numerous innovative mechanisms that seemed to be test cars for next-generation commuter vehicles.

Except for Saha E993 type, the customer door is a hanging type aiming at expanding the guest room space. As a train for JR's conventional line, we adopted a small number of adopted examples, and further developed and manufactured DDM (Direct Drive Motor: Motor), which aimed at saving labor for maintenance and reducing noise. The interior of the intermediate car was decorated and power supplies and monitor screens were installed. On the car body was a deep green band that was JR East Japan was also wrapped around the door part.

The driver's cab has a general height of the Kuha E992 type, the Kuha E993 type has a high cab structure, and introduced the Kuha E992 type. A full-color formula was adopted on the front side. Reflecting results

Vehicles that reflect some of the test results of this series have appeared from vehicles manufactured after 2004.

Backup function of the glass cockpit / door opening / closing light / door control was reflected in the type near the E231 series introduced for the same year and after. And, in order to start commercial operation from (2005), the improvement of the visibility of the inside door of the vehicle due to the change of the shape of the strap and countermeasures was also reflected. Furthermore, when it was completed in October (2006) and started commercial operation at the central line from the same year, it reflected on the full color LED display as well as those reflected in the above two series.

In addition, as a sales vehicle to verify the practical application of technologies tested in this series such as concatenated structure and DDM, the mass production precedent vehicle was completed in March 2006, and from the following (Heisei 17) It was started.

Scrapped car

Utsunomiya - Koriyama waste scrapped by EF 81 95 towing

2006 - It was sent to Kawagoe Vehicle Center from there, and was scrapped by the following attachment. After that, the same exhibition was held at the same time the center was opened to the public, and it was dismantled in late September of the same year after the release.
