Origin of genus and species name
The genus name is a compound word of hymeno (thin membrane) and sporum (seed), due to the thin membrane-like wings attached to the seeds. The species name means "yellow", which is due to the rare and vivid yellow flowers blooming in this family.
Characteristic
It is a tall tree with a height of 5 - 8 meters, originating in a tropical rainforest in the northeastern Australia, and some of the wild ones reach 15 meters. Leaves are mostly reciprocal, length 8 - 15 cm, width 5 - 7 cm, oval, dark green and shiny. Pentacular flower is about 5 cm in diameter and is yellow, but the part near the core is slightly lighter in color and has a strong scent.
Cultivation
It is somewhat weak against cold, but if it is in the south of Tokyo, it can be cultivated roughly outdoors. Seems to be popular in Britain and others, and it is available on the Internet. The seeds take from March to May, germination takes two or three months, and the germination rate is not very good, but if you manage it gently it often germinates a few. I prefer sunny or semi-shade, organic places.
Use
It is planted as a garden tree in a relatively warm region of the West. Honey is abundant, and often fly.
